Intelligent Vehicle Electronics for Government Agencies and Special Vehicles

Feuerwehrfahrzeug in der Rettungsgasse

At RETTmobil 2026, speedsignal GmbH will once again showcase the latest and most innovative solutions for a wide variety of special operations sectors. As a Bavarian company with German manufacturing and development, we offer an extensive range of solutions that support government agencies and companies under extreme conditions.

Extraordinary problems require extraordinary solutions

For over 30 years, speedsignal has offered a complete range of CAN bus adapters for a wide variety of applications and more than 1,000 vehicle models. In recent years, the portfolio has been particularly expanded with regard to functions in and around operations of fire departments and government agencies. The latest solutions address problems arising from production vehicles and their optimization for maximum end-customer safety. Features that save lives for end customers can become new hazards during critical operations!

AutoAssist-OFF: Automatic Deactivation of Driver Assistance Systems (B-3470xxx)

The AutoAssist-OFF module automatically deactivates various driver assistance systems as soon as the emergency signal (blue light) is activated. While these systems save lives in normal road traffic, they can become hazardous during emergency response drives. The module disables the following systems:

  • Lane-keeping assistant – prevents unwanted steering interventions during emergency drives
  • Emergency braking assistant – enables full driver control in critical situations
  • Start-stop automatic – ensures that the engine runs during operations
  • Fatigue detection – eliminates unnecessary warnings during long operations
  • Speed warning – prevents warning messages when exceeding the maximum permissible speed

Configuration is conveniently performed via DIP switches, enabling simple adaptation to different vehicle types.

RunLock and RunBlock: Engine Control for Emergency Vehicles

RunLock (B-339xxxx) is an engine run-on circuit that allows the vehicle engine to continue running after the key is removed. This function is particularly valuable for emergency vehicles that require power for auxiliary equipment and devices even when stationary. The system monitors safety-relevant signals such as clutch, brake, and handbrake to prevent unauthorized use. The vehicle can be securely locked while the engine continues to run.

RunBlock (B-3670010) offers the opposite functionality: a universal engine start inhibitor that prevents engine starting as soon as a control signal is received. A typical application example is preventing engine start when an external 230V power supply is connected at the station location.

Signalbox: CAN Bus Adapter (B-345xxxx)

The Signalbox is a highly developed adapter for direct connection to the vehicle CAN bus. It generates important analog signals for retrofitted bodies and auxiliary equipment:

  • Speed signal for auxiliary equipment and documentation systems
  • Low beam status
  • Ignition status
  • Turn signal indicator
  • Reverse signal for backup cameras and warning systems

The Signalbox serves as a central interface between modern CAN bus vehicles and the special equipment of emergency and special-purpose vehicles.

Springlicht: Increased Visibility During Operations (B-373xxxx)

The high beam module automatically activates the high beam in one-second intervals as soon as the blue light is switched on. This pulsating high beam operation significantly increases the visibility of the emergency vehicle and improves safety for both emergency personnel and other road users, particularly during drives with emergency signals.

Retrofit for many different applications

In addition to specialized solutions for emergency vehicles, speedsignal also offers an extensive range of intelligent electronic modules for various retrofit applications in a wide variety of vehicle types. These products enable simple integration of modern functions into existing and new vehicles.

Speed 15: Speed-Dependent Switch (B-340027)

The Speed 15 is a speed-dependent switch with manual configuration options. It is ideally suited for retrofitting parking sensors or for automatic control of running boards. The 12V switching output is deactivated as soon as the configured speed threshold is reached. If the vehicle speed falls below this value, the output is automatically reactivated.

Typical Applications:

  • Automatic deactivation of parking sensors at higher speeds
  • Control of electric running boards on commercial vehicles and motorhomes
  • Speed-dependent activation of auxiliary functions

The simple configuration is performed manually and enables flexible adaptation to different requirements without complex programming.

ER-70: Electronic Relay for 12V and 24V (B-340116)

The ER-70 is an electronic relay that is triggered by a positive control signal or a ground signal. It can switch a nominal load of up to 70W and a surge load of up to 90W.

A particular advantage of the ER-70 is the very low signal current required. This makes it possible to draw the control signal from a monitored circuit without triggering an error message in the dashboard – for example, when connected to a circuit with bulb monitoring.

Application Areas:

  • Switching auxiliary consumers without loading the original electrical system
  • Integration of retrofit components into monitored vehicle circuits
  • Control of work lights, auxiliary lighting, or warning systems
  • Universally applicable in 12V and 24V electrical systems

Signalbox Vehicle Modification (B-3450xx)

The Signalbox Vehicle Modification is an extended variant of the CAN bus adapter, specifically developed for comprehensive retrofit projects. It provides a multitude of vehicle signals:

  • Speed-dependent switch – for various applications
  • Reverse signal – for cameras and warning systems
  • Handbrake – for interlocks and safety functions
  • Door and trunk contacts (front/rear) – for interior lighting and alarm systems
  • Tailgate – for automatic functions
  • Ignition – as control signal for auxiliary equipment
  • Hazard warning lights – for synchronization of auxiliary lighting
  • Central locking – for integration of retrofit components
  • Charging control D+ – for battery management and voltage monitoring

The Signalbox is configured vehicle-specifically (see vehicle-specific part number in the product search) and enables professional integration of retrofit solutions without complex interventions in the vehicle electronics.

Application Examples:

  • Motorhome conversion with automatic running board control
  • Integration of work lighting in commercial vehicles
  • Retrofitting of backup cameras and parking assistants
  • Control of hydraulic lift platforms and tail lifts
  • Automation of door locks and security systems
